What your vote does

✓ A Yes vote means

Raises the ordinary signature threshold from 2% to 8% of registered voters; raises the special-election threshold; allows withdrawal up to 102 days before an election; removes unilateral placement by the Mayor or four supervisors.

× A No vote means

Retains current signature thresholds and placement powers.

Stays the same either way

A majority of the Board of Supervisors could still place measures on the ballot.

Why they disagree

Supporters say

SF puts far more measures on the ballot than other counties, with the state's lowest signature threshold. Raising it (2% to 8%) and requiring a Board majority makes ballots shorter and clearer.

Official argument for (summary)
Opponents say

Makes it much harder for grassroots groups without money to qualify citizen initiatives, which have won rent control, legal aid and school and childcare funding.
